Second Wynnd Fishing Charters takes you beyond the shoreline to target some of Fort Lauderdale’s most exciting game. Depending on the season and current conditions, your trip may involve trolling, kite fishing, reef fishing, deep dropping, or another proven local technique.
Every charter takes place aboard our custom-built 37-foot SeaVee. Capt. Preston Courtney and the crew provide the boat, equipment, bait, fishing licenses, instruction, and local knowledge needed for the trip.
Our private charters accommodate up to six guests. Beginners, families, and experienced anglers are welcome.

Fort Lauderdale Game Fish
With deep Atlantic water inshore, our crew can spend less time traveling and more time putting you in productive fishing areas.
Depending on the season and conditions, we target fish such as sailfish, dolphin, wahoo, tuna, kingfish, grouper, snapper, and swordfish. Whether you're an experienced angler or trying sport fishing for the first time, we provide the boat, equipment, and local knowledge needed for a day of serious fun. Our private charters run:
1/2 Day
4 HOURS
Trips typically run from 8am-12pm, or 1pm-5pm. Want to fish but don't want to commit the entire day, the half day is the smart choice.
3/4 Day
6 HOURS
Our most popular option, and typically run from 8am-2pm. These trips allow us to be a bit more flexible with our fishing style.
Full Day
8 HOURS
Full-day trips provide enough time to try numerous styles of fishing, allowing us to seek a multitude of species.

Every Second Wynnd trip is private. Your group will not be combined with strangers or forced into a preset experience that does not match your interests.
Some guests want an active day of trolling for fast-moving pelagic fish. Others want to fish over reefs, pursue a specific type, or introduce their children to fishing.

The final fishing plan must account for what is realistic and safe that day. However, we will use your goals to help shape the experience whenever conditions allow.
Deep-Drop Fishing
Deep dropping sends baited rigs hundreds of feet below the surface to reach fish living in deeper water.
This type of fishing requires a specialized reel, heavy weights, and careful boat positioning. Electric reels may be used to retrieve rigs from extreme depths.
Possible targets can include tilefish, deep-water snapper, and certain grouper types when legally available.
Swordfishing
Among the most powerful and challenging fish found off South Florida. They may be targeted during the day or at night using different techniques.
Daytime swordfishing often requires lowering bait into extremely deep water. The captain must manage depth, current, line angle, and boat position while watching for subtle bites.
Techniques Used by Second Wynnd
Fort Lauderdale offers access to several types of deep-water fishing. The technique used during your charter depends on the target game, season, current, depth, and recent activity.
Kite Fishing
Kite fishing is one of South Florida’s signature techniques. A fishing kite suspends live baits at or near the surface while keeping most of the terminal rigs out of the water.
This creates a natural presentation that can attract sailfish, blackfin tuna, mahi, kingfish, cobia, and other predators.
The crew manages the kite, bait position, and multiple fishing lines. When a fish strikes, we help the angler respond and maintain proper pressure throughout the fight.
Trolling
Trolling allows us to cover more water by pulling carefully positioned baits or lures behind the boat.
This technique may be used when searching for mahi, wahoo, tuna, kingfish, or sailfish. Water color, current edges, temperature changes, weed lines, birds, and floating debris can help guide the search.
Our outriggers allow the crew to spread the lines across a wider area while reducing tangles.
Reef and Wreck Fishing
Fort Lauderdale’s reefs and wrecks are popular fishing destinations because they provide habitat for many bottom and midwater variety. Depending on the location and season, these areas may produce snapper, grouper, amberjack, and other fish.
The crew may use live bait, cut bait, jigs, or bottom rigs based on the target and water conditions.
Reef fishing can be a good option for families, newer anglers, and groups seeking steady involvement. However, the best approach still depends on conditions that day.
Saltwater Fishing on a Custom 37-Foot SeaVee
Your charter takes place aboard Second Wynnd, a custom-built 2020 37-foot SeaVee designed for performance and different fishing techniques.
The boat is powered by triple 300-horsepower Mercury Verado engines. These types of fishing boats help reduce travel time and allows us to reach different fishing grounds efficiently.

The boat provides the space and capability needed for private groups of up to six guests.
Florida Fishing Licenses and Regulations
Fishing licenses are included with Second Wynnd’s private charters. Guests do not usually need to purchase an individual Florida saltwater fishing license for the trip.
State and federal regulations may determine which fish can be kept. Rules can include seasons, size limits, bag limits, protected species, fishing gear restrictions, and reporting requirements.
These regulations can change. Capt. Preston and the crew determine which catches may legally be retained during the charter.
Fish that cannot be kept will be released using the safest practical method for the game and conditions.
Meet Captain Preston Courtney
Captain Preston Courtney was born and raised in Fort Lauderdale. He has spent much of his life boating, fishing and, diving throughout South Florida’s waters.
His professional experience began while working aboard charter boats in high school. He later expanded that experience through fishing trips across Florida, the Bahamas, and Cuba.
That background provides more than general knowledge of offshore fishing. It gives your group a captain who understands local waterways, seasonal fish movement, changing conditions, and the techniques commonly used off Fort Lauderdale.
